In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, shower enclosure manufacturer Lakes is shining a spotlight on the vital role apprenticeships play in developing future talent for the bathroom manufacturing sector and addressing the industry-wide skills gap.
National Apprenticeship Week aims to highlight the positive impact apprenticeships have on individuals and businesses, with several team members completing apprenticeships or progressing their careers through ongoing training and development programmes.
During National Apprenticeship Week, Lakes is sharing the stories of its apprenticeship success stories, including Bathroom Association 30 Under 30 winner and now Customer Service Advisor Katie Harris.
Sales Admin apprentice Amy Smart and Field Service Technician Lewis Baverstock have also had the spotlight shone on them.
Amy said, “My advice for anyone would be if you had the opportunity to start an apprenticeship, 100% go for it.
“It is an amazing opportunity to develop your skills, and you get paid whilst learning.”
Lewis said, “I enjoy that I feel like I can talk to anyone in the company and they will help.
“I specifically like my role because it changes every day, which makes it really enjoyable.”
Lakes Managing Director Mike Gahir says that a commitment to taking on apprentices reinforces the company’s commitment to investing in people and creating a sustainable, family-style working environment.
Mike said: “By welcoming apprentices into the business, we’re making a clear commitment to their future and demonstrating to our wider team that long-term development and progression are central to our values.
“While the skills gap remains a significant challenge for the manufacturing sector, National Apprenticeship Week provides an important opportunity to focus on positive progress and future potential.
“Every industry faces its own challenges when it comes to attracting young talent, but the bathroom manufacturing sector has much to be proud of.
“From advanced manufacturing techniques and sustainable innovation to clear long-term career pathways, the industry offers far more than many people realise.”
Lakes’ people-first approach was further recognised through its recent B Corp certification, which reflects the company’s long-standing focus on social responsibility, employee wellbeing and sustainable business practices.
