Member Monday – Thomas Crapper & Co Ltd

There is no doubt Thomas Crapper is a well-known name – did you know he was behind several crucial sanitary innovations and improvements, such as the syphon flush and floating ballcock? Both are still used today. Thomas Crapper also opened the first ever bathroom showroom in 1870.

Aside from the history, Thomas Crapper & Co Ltd is a company that is stronger than ever since its conception in 1861 and since Hartford Holdings Ltd, a family business based in Yorkshire (best known for their ownership of Trojan Baths), bought the company in 2016. For over 160 years, Thomas Crapper has been devoted to quality and lasting luxury in the traditional, classic UK-made bathroom. The evolution of the brand has embraced these founding values whilst boasting technological progress. The company has grown by a factor of five over eight years while the retailer network comprises 120 showrooms in the UK. Thomas Crapper has also branched out to the US market where the brand is hugely successful. This was proven at Kitchen Bath Industry (KBIS) in February, in cooperation with the BMA UK pavilion.

Earlier this year, Thomas Crapper partnered with Craven Dunnill in Jackfield to bring a new range of tiles to its customers. The end of 2024 will see the already impressive product range grow as the company introduces even more new products.

The majority of Thomas Crapper’s products are manufactured in England, providing retailers and customers a sense of security.

Paul Dwyer, Managing Director for Thomas Crapper comments, “As a team, we are extremely proud of how the company has grown in recent years. With passion, hard work and our loyal customers, the brand is reaching new levels. You will see from our product launches last year that we have branched out to include many different products such as vanity units and other pieces of bathroom furniture, but we do know our 814 cisterns are the showstopper! We are looking forward to launching more new products in October 2024. KBIS gave us a good glimpse into the US market, and we are pleased with how that’s going. With that being said, Thomas Crapper is still very much a British company, and we will also continue to concentrate on growing here in the UK.”
