The Construction Leadership Council’s national industry change programme (Construct Zero), which aims to drive carbon reduction in all parts of the construction sector, is wholeheartedly supported by the Bathroom Manufacturers Association and its members.
Construct Zero, the response to the Prime Minister’s 10 Point Plan, is redefining the way the sector designs, constructs, maintains, operates and decommissions as part of the UK’s Built Environment.
BMA, as an active participant in the CLC, is delighted to endorse and participate in this cross-industry change programme, to drive carbon out of all parts of its members’ manufacturing and design.
BMA’s Chief Executive, Tom Reynolds, said: “We are working with colleagues across the construction sector to bring about collaborative change.
“This is the time to work more effectively together and to use the shared net-zero purpose to achieve transformation.
“Looking at our collective impact, we’re also conscious a singular focus on carbon is not enough. The built environment’s impact on nature, ecology, landscape, water, drainage must be in the mix as we address climate change.”
The BMA runs a sustainability forum for members to discuss and develop carbon reduction and environmental efforts.
This year, the association has launched its inaugural Sustainability Awards open to full BMA members and affiliates. The five categories are: Carbon Reduction, Water Efficiency, Circular Economy, Workplace Initiative and Sustainability Champion.
Andy Mitchell, Co-chair Construction Leadership Council, is a judge for BMA’s sustainability awards. Andy said: “Like BMA, we need everyone to work together, to step up as champions of the industry to drive behaviour change and support others to tackle these challenges.
“We’ve seen the transformative impact collective ambition has had during this country’s battle with COVID. Now the construction industry is positioning itself as a key partner in the national charge to reach UK Net Zero by 2050.”
The deadline for entries in the BMA Sustainability Awards is 5pm August 27, 2021, find out more about the awards here.
