BMA WELCOMES LATEST BORIS STATEMENT

BMA welcomes latest Boris statement to reopening society. Further detail on the plan will be published in Parliament later today after Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed the nation on Sunday night. It is the detail which will give bathroom manufacturers confidence that a return to normality is in sight, said the trade body.

In Sunday night’s televised statement, the Prime Minister said people who cannot work from home should return to work citing construction and manufacturing. Even during the strictest phase of the lockdown, work in these settings was able to continue providing compliance with social distancing guidelines. The ‘stay at home’ message meant that even so, the construction industry ground to a halt. The BMA hopes the change in tack from Number 10 will help trade and the supply chain restart in earnest.

BMA CEO, Tom Reynolds said:

“The top priority for everybody is maintaining workers’ health. Our members who have continued or restarted operations have done so in line with PHE guidance. The seven new guides from on staying safe at work in different settings, expected later today, will help all parts of our sector to do that too.

Last night, the Prime Minister was clear that we are not returning to normal yet, and there are many ‘if’s and buts’ before the restoration of all freedoms. BMA members still have lots of questions about how the Government’s roadmap will work in the next few months. We’re hopeful the information expected later today will contain the answers.”
