Ideal Standard launches new era of Design

In December 2018, Ideal Standard, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of private and public bathrooms solutions, announced its exclusive long-term partnership with renowned design studio Palomba Serafini Associati. At ISH 2019, the company proudly presents the first ranges resulting from this cooperation, marking the beginning of a new era of Design.

Torsten Türling, CEO of Ideal Standard Group:“In the last few years, we have successfully improved our cost competitiveness as well as our innovation pipeline. The next important step now is to regain design leadership and strengthen our brand“.

Ground-breaking design has always been part of Ideal Standard’s DNA. Working with Master designers like Gio Ponti in the 1950s or Achille Castiglioni and Paolo Tilche in the 1970s and ‘80s, the company not only introduced design in the world of bathrooms, it influenced society as a whole and redefined the role of the bathroom within it.

Torsten Türling:“Ideal Standard always has been a design brand, with deep rooted skills and a rich heritage. Having been raised by the Master designersof the past and representing Italian design in all its aspects around the world, we could think of no-one better than Ludovica and Roberto Palomba to explore this heritage and translate it into the 21stCentury”.

Palomba Serafini Associatihave been trendsetters in bathroom design for the last 25 years. Beyond the bathroom space they collaborate with leading international brands like Kartell or Samsung. Their work is internationally recognised having received a multitude of prestigious awards, including the acclaimed Compasso D’Oro. To date, PS+A is the only designer who received this award for a bathroom project.

Presenting the first design range at ISH 2019: The new Conca

The Conca series was originally designed for Ideal Standard by Master designer Paolo Tilche in 1972, and it had profound impact on the culture of design. In their contemporary design interpretation, Ludovica + Roberto Palomba kept the geometries and sensual details of the original design, but brought Ideal Standards’ advanced manufacturing technologies into play that enabled a new level of purity in the design, unthinkable in the 1970s.

Roberto Palomba:“Taking on an iconic design like Conca from a Master designer I have admired since I started my career is both exciting and scary. I am extremely proud of the result and believe we were able to create a piece that fits today’s trends while retaining its unique, sophisticated character”.

Ideal Standard’s new CONCA series of basins presented at ISH 2019 as a world premiere is complemented by two distinct series of faucets designed by Ludovica + Roberto Palomba: the cylindrical JOY and the exceptionally flat basin mixer CHECK. Both add a different, unique character to the Conca basin. Furthermore, studio Palomba Serafini Associatidesigned an architectural toilet and bidet range called BLEND, as well as a stunning free-standing bath tub in Conca design.

Hinting once again at Ideal Standard’s successful design heritage in which colour played an important role, Ludovica + Roberto Palomba also developed a stylish new colour palette for the company’s ceramics and faucets portfolio. At the heart of its 850m²stand at ISH, Ideal Standards presents its enhanced colour IPALYSS basin range, based on the patented ultrathin ceramic material Diamatec®.

Modern lifestyle trends like the shift to a culture of ‘sharing’ have triggered a clear evolution where private and public lives blend together. This requires a new vision for bathroom solutions, a vision on form and function.

The next generation of Ideal Standard

Central to Ideal Standard’s core identity is the expression of “Together for Better”, where ‘better is the promise we make to our customers, our trusted partners and the millions of people who use our products every day’.

Through the collaboration with Palomba Serafini Associatiand the recent creation of a Global Design Center in Milan, Italy, Ideal Standard targets to create a distinct design style looking at the bathroom as part of the architecture in its entirety ‘where all things are considered’ and that is marked by its purity and simplicity.

As mentioned by Roberto Palomba, “A well-designed project completely transcends its function and becomes timeless”. This is what Ideal Standard calls ‘The Eternal Value of Design’: a synergy of functional perfection and aesthetic beauty where design gives meaning beyond function and quality is second to none.

Torsten Türling: “I am delighted by this next phase of our turnaround story and our renewed focus on design.
