All full members of the BMA are required to sign up to the association’s code of ethics, which covers the integrity of the company across areas such as competition, environmental credentials, training and anti-corruption as well as compliance.

BMA CEO designate Tom Reynolds said that the code of ethics audit is integral in ensuring the association’s credibility. 

“We are stepping up our campaign on non-compliance in the bathroom industry, so it is a logical first step to ensure that our own house is in order, and that all members are adhering to the standards set in the code of ethics.

“We will be supporting companies that uncover any deficiencies in complying with the code and working with them to bring them back into compliance.

“Compliance is a major issue in the bathroom industry, with many retailers and manufacturers not understanding their legal obligations.  It is a complex area, with many pieces of legislation and the water regulations to consider.”

As part of its compliance campaign, the BMA will be launching a new online compliance tool, developed in partnership with Keele University, on 07 October at a compliance seminar, which is open to all.

The tool will identify the relevant Standards and Regulations that products should comply with, when sold and installed in the UK market.

Tom adds, “The new tool will demystify what it means to be compliant, helping consumers understand what they should be looking for, and supporting the industry by detailing what is needed to comply.”
